Interdisciplinary Meeting on Environment, Occupation and Cancer: Etiology and Prevention

The 3-day event "Environment, Occupation, and Cancer: Etiology and Prevention" will be held in Oslo, is open for everyone and organized by the Cancer Registry of Norway - Norwegian Institute of Public Health and the University of Oslo. Day 1: Pre-conference meeting for participants of both our event and an international meeting in Oslo on occupational carcinogens. This session will bring together leading experts from both events to explore innovative ways to integrate environmental, occupational, and health-registry data for cancer prevention. Day 1 will serve as a foundation for discussions and activities over the next two days. Day 2: Seminar that focus on how land-based environmental exposures may contribute to cancer risk and how preventive strategies can be improved. Sessions will cover: 1)How carcinogens identified in the occupational setting may be relevant in the environmental setting 2)Environmental contaminants (PFAS, nickel, air pollution) and cancer risk. 3)Future strategies for identifying cancer risks associated with occupational and land-based environmental factors. 4)A concluding panel debate on prevention strategies and regulatory measures. Confirmed keynote speakers are renowned international experts: Prof. Kurt Straif (Boston College, US), Prof. Paolo Vineis (Imperial College, UK) and Dr. Katherine McGlynn (NCI, US). They will provide international perspectives, and Norwegian researchers will contribute to the discussion. The seminar will be in a hybrid format, ensuring accessibility. Day 3: Early career workshop for postdocs, PhD candidates, and master students in environment and cancer research. Participants will engage with senior scientists through career development, communication, networking, and discussions on environmental risk factors like pollutants and pesticides. This workshop strengthens young researchers’ expertise in environmental cancer research, aligning with the call’s focus on mitigating risks through research and policy.
